Clan and Family History Research

The Glen Spean and Great Glen area is associated closely with Clan Cameron, one of the most renowned of the Highland clans (see details below). Of course, other local clans have also featured prominently in the historical annals, including the MacDonnells of Keppoch and MacDonnells of Glengarry. Researching your family history may turn up a few surprises, for instance, if you are a MacMillan, MacMartin or MacPhee it's likely that your ancestors were from this area.  A good place to start your genealogical investigations is at the Clan Cameron Museum at Achnacarry or at the Lochaber Archives in Fort William.

Calling all Camerons! Donald Cameron of Lochiel, XXVII Chief, invites clansfolk from around the world to gather next summer at his ancestral home. Celebrate the collective heritage of Clan Cameron in this historic and beautiful area of Lochaber.

A full and varied programme includes Clan Cameron Association Reception, walks, lectures, musical events with piping, songs and Highland dancing, an informal dinner, a Clan ceilidh etc. There will be a chance to meet Lochiel himself, visit the Clan museum and even attend a Clan Cameron vs Clan Fraser shinty match.
